International Continuing Dental Education Program on “Basics of Palliative Dentistry – An Unexplored Avenue” was organized by the Team Public Health Dentistry in collaboration with Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry, Tamil Nadu Chapter and supported by Pallium India, Trivandrum, on 16th October 2018 at MGMCRI lecture hall. The program contained a series of interesting informative lectures by eminent speakers from different disciplines on
palliative care. Dr Kannan, Professor, Department of General Surgery, MGMCRI, presented a lecture on “Overview on palliative care”. Ms Gilly Burn, Project Director of the Indo British Palliative care projects from a 1993-96 collaboration between Macmillan Cancer Relief and WHO, delivered a lecture on “Background of Palliative Care”. Dr Sreedevi Warrier, Consultant Pallium India, enlightened on the “Role of Dentist in Palliative Care”. Dr Remadevi, Associate Professor, Anaesthesiology, presented a lecture on “Pain management”. Dr K.S. Reddy, Professor and HOD, Radiation Oncology, MGMCRI, delivered a lecture on “Palliation of Head and Neck cancer”. Dr A. Balasubramaniyam, Associate Professor and HOD, Surgical Oncology, MGMCRI, delivered a lecture on “Nutrition and Hydration in Head and Neck Cancer Care”. Dr Uma Narayanamoorthy, Associate Professor, Pharmacology, presented a lecture on the communication skills. Ms Anu Savio Thelly, Nurse Consultant, Palliative Medicine, MGMCRI, presented a lecture on “Wound Care”. A total of 131 delegates comprised of undergraduates, postgraduates, faculties and general practitioners from Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu participated and benefit from the program.
