SBV Intellectual property
SBV activities related to Intellectual Property Rights
Intellectual property (IP) is a key player that enhances the objectivity, validity and visibility of an Higher Education Institution (HEI). Despite the fact that it is not the priority of a Health Sciences University to embark on IPR activities, unlike those in the realms of Science, Engineering & Technology, SBV has created tangible assets in IP including copyrights and patents. The Intellectual Property such as Patents, Copyrights,Trademarks etc. are generated through the Constituent Colleges and the Centres. The SBV Mission for Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer, abbreviated as SBV- MIPTECH facilitates students and faculty to create IP.
The mainstay of these initiatives on IPR lies in the immediate and sustained need to create awareness about the importance of IPRs as a marketable asset among the researchers, faculty and students alike. Besides, these IP assets would largely contribute to the holistic welfare of the community, especially when the IP asset lends itself to technology transfer and marketing of products at an economically viable price. This also enables Institute Social Responsibility. The revised National IPR Policy with seven objectives was launched on 12th May 2016 and has a well defined vision and mission statement. The last of the seven objectives is aimed at human capital development. By this, we mean the fortification and expansion of human resources, institutions as well as capacity building for the purpose of teaching, training, research and skill building in the frontiers of IPR.
SBV has taken cognizance of the revised National IPR Policy and continues to strive in this direction. SBV follows a unique approach while conducting sensitisation programs and workshops- facilitated by in house resource persons. This unique model of SBV has proved to be an instant success, as manifest in the copyrights and patents generated by the students and Faculty at the constituent colleges and Centres. These have been consolidated and depicted in the Table given below.
