Nilgiris oral health program

A team of 32 consists of 8 faculties, 22 CRRI, 2 paramedics participated in Nilgiris oral health program organized by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, IGIDS, SBV, Island Trust, Kotagiri and Kathirvel Nagammal Trust, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu from 8 th July to 10 th July 2016 as a part of MOU signed between these organizations. The team was welcomed in a traditional tribal style. Three remote underserved villages comprised of Kothars, Badugas and Irular community were screened and treated for various oral health problems. The students of Panchayat Union Primary School, Dhottani, Tamil Nadu, and the residents around that area received the benefits of dental camp. One dental health education aid was donated to the school for improving oral hygiene of the students. Two CRRI short studies were also done in the tribal population. A door to door oral health screening and awareness regarding tobacco and its hazards were also done to the people. A total of 610 patients were screened and 970 treatments were done during the dental camp which includes 350 scaling, 440 restorations and 180 extractions.
