PRO IGIDS 2014, CDE programme on Implant prosthodontics – September 2014

PRO IGIDS 2014, CDE programme on Implant prosthodontics had held at Second floor Lecture Hall, MGMCRI, Puducherry on 20st September 2014. This year saw the venture from the Department of Prosthodontics, of a Continuing Dental Education [CDE] programme PRO IGIDS – 2014, with the central theme, “Marching towards excellence in replacements and restorations”. The programme was co – organised by the Scientific and Academic Forum, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences. It had an overwhelming response of 108 registrants compared to 74 registrations last year. The crowd consisted of Post Graduates, Under Graduates, and Specialists from IGIDS, MGPGI, RMDCH and also included few general practitioners. The programme also was accredited for the Pondicherry State DCI for 6 CDE Points [SDC/CDE/2013-2014/159]

The day started off with the registration at 8:15 am followed by the Guest Lecture by Dr. Sivashankar, Director, Confident Lab, Bangalore. Then the gathering broke for a crisp inauguration ceremony at 10:00am which was planned to be presided over by the Honorable Vice Chancellor SBV University Prof K R Sethuraman. In his absentia, his message and wishes was presented. Prof P S Manoharan, Head Dept of Prosthodontics and the Organising Chairman of the PRO IGIDS-2013, welcomed the gathering. Dr. The Guest speakers guided by the Principal Dr. Carounanidy Usha inaugurated the programme by lighting the kuthuvilakku. The three speakers of the day took over the second session after a short tea break. Dr. Abby Abraham, Dr. Lakshmi and Dr. Vigneswaran members of International Congress of Oral implantologists and from Meenakshi Ammal Dental College enlightened the crowd with their lecture starting from the basics to the advanced level of guided surgery. The audience soaked up latest opinions, trends and insights from the speakers. The post lunch session began with the same team from Meenakshi Ammal Dental college for a Hands On session with 22 participants along with a live demo in the start on Guided Implant Surgery using Stereolithography models, which was projected on screens via camera using the closed circuit system. Video recording of the entire hands on was made.

The participants shared their experiences, honed their ideas and departed with the latest knowledge on guided implant surgery. Online Feed-back was obtained from all participants at the end of the session. The programme culminated by another tea session at 5:00 pm and an informal valedictory function with the distribution of certificates by the speakers.
