ANTI RAGGING COMMITTEE

Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, adopts the “Zero Tolerance” policy towards ragging and implements all possible measures to curb ragging in the Institution. The anti-ragging committee functions as per the guidelines set by the Honourable Supreme Court and the UGC. The anti-ragging committee is under the chairmanship of Prof. R Saravanakumar, Principal, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth. Awareness posters and banners are promptly displayed in important areas during the time of admission of the new batch of students. The poster containing mobile numbers of the anti-ragging committee members and the National Helpline Number is also displayed. To have constant vigilance and ensure quick and smooth communication of ragging issues with the students, a Whatsapp group of committee members and first-year students is created. The committee is committed to ensuring that all students fill the anti-ragging affidavits and complete their anti-ragging online registration (www.antiragging.in) during the induction programme when they are accompanied by their parents. The students are also given copies of the anti-ragging booklet. A separate flying squad also works to conduct surprise visits to places like the canteen, hostel, dining room, library, lecture halls, lunch hall and any other place in the campus deemed necessary. The committee takes meticulous efforts to ensure that all senior students of the institution are sensitized about the consequences of ragging. The students are explained about ragging consequences and they also view the anti-ragging videos (A short film titled “ Vidyal – The Dawn” depicting the menace of ragging directed and produced by students of IGIDS).To ensure continued monitoring of ragging issues in the hostel after college hours faculty are posted for night duty in ladies and gents hostels. To break the ice between the seniors and fresher students, a friendly sports meet is conducted. The committee strives to improve in its efforts to make the campus ragging free through feedbacks obtained from the fresher students.

CHRONICLE COMMITTEE

The Chronicle is the quarterly newsletter of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth. The quarterly performance reports of all the constituent colleges of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth will be compiled Institution wise in the newsletter. Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences content includes on details of the faculty members publications, presentations, and participation in academic events, awards and recognition, examinership and membership data. The academic activities organized by the  Scientific and Academic forum, Dental Education Unit such as Continuing Dental Education Programs, Conferences organized, orientation programs, Faculty development programs, Student Enrichment programs are compiled with photographs. The details on outreach services of the institution are also provided along with the inputs from Red Ribbon Club and National Service Scheme. The data on new appointments and promotions of faculty members are included. The postgraduate and undergraduate student-related activities are also compiled.

HOSTEL STUDENT WELFARE COMMITTEE

Hostel Student Welfare Committee takes care of and monitors the welfare of the hostel students of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth.

Objectives of the Hostel Student Welfare Committee are

  1. To create an atmosphere of harmony and cooperation amongst the hostel students
  2. To create an environment for the students to excel in studies and personality development
  3. To create a sense of accommodation and inculcate discipline

Separate hostels for boys and girls are provided for the students of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth. The rules and regulations of the hostel expect the students to act in such a manner that the atmosphere is conducive for all the students. Students have to abide by the decisions of the hostel wardens with respect to enforcement of the hostel rules.

HIGHLIGHTS: As Ragging is a cognizable offense, punishable under the law, is strictly banned in hostel premises. The hostel committee vigilantly works towards maintaining ZERO tolerance for ragging. The Anti-ragging squad night duty by the faculties & surprise vigilance by flying squads is regularly practiced as per the policies and norms.

Hostel recreation hall, gym facilities, and ambulance services provided for hostellers. Weekdays leave requisition will be monitored and duly signed by the Coordinators, Hostel Committee member of IGIDS and further forwarded to the Warden. Weekend leave will be signed by the hostel in charge after confirming with their parents.

INTERNAL ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE

Objectives of the Internal Assessment Committee are

  1. To ensure academic accountability.
  2. To define the quality of each component of assessment ensuring the quality of education in the institute.
  3. To assess the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process and to devise methodology of conducting exams to obtain maximum output from students.

The internal assessment committee conducts internal assessment exams every quarterly and a pre-final send off examination before a student appears for the university examination. It approves and finalizes the dates of internal assessment examinations. Internal Assessment Committee receives question papers in the prescribed format from all the dental departments through the office well in advance before the commencement of examinations. It also safeguards the quality of the examination procedures. Committee appointment invigilators based on the number of students in an exam hall. The committee creates guidelines for examiners and students; take measures against any misconduct or fraud; solve grievances, if any, with respect to examination work.

INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE CELL (IQAC) COMMITTEE

The IQAC team of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences (IGIDS), Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, ensures timely submission of Quarterly and Annual Department Evaluative Reports to the University IQAC through the office of IGIDS. To ensure quality documentation, the IQAC in coordination with the “Chronicle” in charge, conducts a meeting chaired by the Prof Saravana Kumar, Principal, IGIDS, SBV, for vetting the QERs prior to presentation at the University Quarterly Performance Review meeting chaired by the Prof S. C. Parija, Honourable Vice Chancellor, SBV. The IQAC ensures quality enhancement and sustenance among faculty and students by promoting and conducting Faculty Development Programs, Orientation Programs, Workshops and Special lectures in coordination with the Scientific and Academic Forum, Dental Education Unit and the dental departments. The IQAC also takes initiatives to promote environmental awareness and social responsibility among faculty and students by commemorating important days.

MENTOR MENTEE COMMITTEE

The mentor-mentee committee is constituted with the following objectives.

  1. To help the mentee explore and plan his / her course.
  2. To offer the mentee the opportunity of acquiring new knowledge and skills by understanding the mentor’s practical experience.
  3. To facilitate skill development for current and future leaders.

Each and every student of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, has been allotted a mentor. The functioning of this committee is explained to the students and Mentor. The students were advised to meet their respective mentors once in a week during the initial month of joining and have one to one interaction to discuss all the issues pertaining to them at Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth. The mentors guide the students and help them to overcome the difficulties faced during their initial college days. The confidentiality is always maintained by the mentors throughout the process. The students are motivated and made to identify their weakness and discover their interest. The attendance, academics, and discipline are monitored by the mentor. The students needing additional curricular support are identified and provided necessary support. The system is also integrated with Parent Teacher Association of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences.

PARENT TEACHERS MEET COMMITTEE

Objectives of Parent Teachers Meet Committee are

  1. To familiarize the parents with the attendance, discipline, academic performances of their son and daughter and to establish a positive relationship.
  2. Students needing additional curricular support will be spotted by parent teachers committee and they shall meet relevant staff/mentor to discuss their progress.

Parent-teachers Meet (PT meet) will be conducted thrice a year. Parents are communicated through Garuda (student information system) and through postal communication 2 weeks before the PT meet. Principal, IGIDS, members of the committee, subject coordinator and Head of departments will address the parents. Parents will have one on one interaction with the subject coordinators and will discuss the overall performance of the student. Parent’s suggestions were obtained through PTA feedback form. The attendance and internal assessment marks were informed through phone or e-mail for the parents who were unable to attend the PTA meeting.

RED RIBBON CLUB COMMITTEE

Red Ribbon Club (RRC) helps to create HIV AIDS-free India by educating the student youth of IGIDS, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, with information on HIV / AIDS prevention, management, care, support, and post-exposure prophylaxis. It also motivates the youth to be peer educators and encourage non remunerated voluntary blood donation. Red Ribbon club create high moral values and responsibilities among the students of IGIDS.

INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL

Research is an integral part of the mission of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth and considerable emphasis is placed on research activities. Research and other scholarly pursuits are essential activities for all faculty and students of the IGIDS.

Research activities may be in the form of faculty research projects, postgraduate dissertation work, Ph.D. thesis, undergraduate research projects, patents or copyrights. Quality of the research projects is ensured by the Internal Review Board and the Institutional Ethical Committee. The progress of postgraduate student dissertation, faculty projects, and undergraduate research projects are monitored by the research committee.

The outcome of research projects in the form of publications or presentations in conferences is documented by the research committee.

Thrust areas have been identified by every department and research projects are designed in the areas of interest.

For the promotion of research, faculty, and student enrichment programs such as research methodology workshops, citation management workshops, systematic review workshops and workshops on ethics and good clinical practice are conducted regularly.

Awards for best research projects and high impact publications are also given to respective investigators. Travel grants and seed money support for faculty projects are important incentives to promote research facilitated by the research committee.

SCIENTIFIC AND ACADEMIC FORUM AT IGIDS COMMITTEE

The Scientific and Academic Forum (SAF) of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth has been active since 2008 wherein various programs have been conducted to foster the scientific temper and quest of faculty and postgraduates of IGIDS. The forum has an executive body whose members are selected every year by the Head of the Institution. The body holds office for a period of one year during which it conducts scientific and academic programs with the logistic and financial support of the management. The Head of the Institute is the chief advisor of the forum. The executive council is guided by the rules and regulation, which are mentioned in the constitution of the SAF. The executive body initially consisted of President, Vice-president, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, Joint treasurer, seven executive members. At present, the executive body is comprised of a member secretary and 4 faculty members and 5 student members. The SAF has its own account which can be operated only by the Head of the Institution and the Treasurer during their tenure. Funds are maintained by collecting graded amount from the faculty members and postgraduates and are used for conducting SAF activities. SAF, IGIDS, conducts orientation lectures, webinars, ted talks, special guest lectures for undergraduates, postgraduates and faculty of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, SBV. SAF also organizes joint programs in conjunction with SAF, MGMCRI. SAF, IGIDS, also invites subject experts of various dental specialties and health professional education to conduct orientation programs and workshop under Scientific Academic Forum and acts as adjunct sponsor for Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programs and events organized by departments of IGIDS, SBV. An annual internal and external oration is held every year wherein renowned subject experts and stalwarts are honored after their delivering the oration.

SC/ST COMMITTEE

The SC / ST Standing Committee of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, ensures the effective implementation of the policies and programs of the Government of India, UGC, and State Governments. The objective of this committee is to guide the SC / ST students of the Institute to optimally utilize the benefits of the schemes offered by the State Governments and UGC. The committee promotes dignity, equality, and social justice and human rights for all, with special emphasis on the vulnerable group. The Committee chair meets the team members once in three months. Hate or Bias Motivated Incident Report form is maintained on regular basis. The suggestion box has been placed on the college premises to attend their needs. Future plans of the SC / ST cell is to conduct program for SC / ST candidates that may help them to prepare for orientation program for the newly joined students at the beginning of the academic session, to conduct classes on life skills, personality development, writing and presentation skills and to conduct interactive sessions and informal meetings with students to help them deal with personal, social and academic problems.

WOMEN WELFARE COMMITTEE

The Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences , Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth ,as per the  laws of “ Nation commission of Women  “ the institution  has functional womens empowerment  cell  which  insist and emphasis the power of women empowerment  and the legal rights for women ,by conducting various  awareness program .

CLINICAL SOCIETY MEETING

Clinical Society Meet is conducted at Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences as part of Scientific and Academic forum, IGIDS, SBV. The Clinical Society Meet is scheduled between 2.00 to 4.00 PM on the third Friday of every month. Faculty, postgraduate students and interested students participate in the meeting. Interesting clinical cases/case scenarios are presented by postgraduates of respective departments following which discussions pertaining to the cases are carried out with inputs from faculties. Clinical cases managed by multiple departments are presented as interdisciplinary presentations wherein postgraduates from respective departments will focus on their role in the management of the case and present the case. It provides a common platform for academic interaction between postgraduates of various departments within the institution.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASS FOR THE FIRST YEAR UNDERGRADUATE IGIDS STUDENTS

As students from different states of India has joined Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Science, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, English language classes are taken as a training program for the newly joined First year BDS students of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences. The English language classes are taken on every Saturday from 11.00 AM to 1.00 PM for a period of 6 months. The classes were taken by Ms. Tamizhkalairasi, Tutor in English, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth.

OBJECTIVES OF THIS ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASS ARE

  • To improve student vocabulary, reading and writing skills.
  • To improve the student’s pronunciation for various medical terminologies.
  • To train the students in the importance of effective communication and its importance.
  • To improve the students learning skill.
  • To educate and train the students in presentation skills.

YOGA – INDIRA GANDHI INSTITUTE OF DENTAL SCIENCES

Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, ensures that all students joining IGIDS are oriented to the tradition of YOGA for their physical, mental, social and spiritual wellness. The institution in coordination with the Centre for Yoga Therapy Education and Research (CYTER, SBV) organized awareness lectures and practical sessions as part of the first year orientation program. The institute also encourages students and faculty to participate in various competitions, seminars, symposiums and conferences organized by the CYTER.

STUDENT COUNCIL COMMITTEE

A Student council is a group of elected and Volunteer students working together with an advisor within the frame work of bylaws to provide a means for student expression and assistance in Institutional affairs and activities, give opportunities for student experience in leadership and encourage students/faculty /community relations
